Amber Weerstra is a Muskegon native, who graduated from Reeths-Puffer High School in 1998. In 2000 Amber graduated from Muskegon Community College with an Associates of Arts and Science Degree. Amber graduated from Hope College with a Bachelor’s in Political Science in 2002 and later received her Teaching Certificate for Secondary Education in Political Science and History. During her senior year at Hope College Amber was appointed to the Hope College Judicial Board.
Amber went on to teach for Orchard View Adult Education’s GED and High School Completion programs for 13 years. In 2009, Amber earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Grand Valley State University. In 2017, Amber graduated from Western Michigan Thomas M. Cooley Law School after earning distinctions on the Dean’s List, Honor Roll, and is a lifetime member of the Animal Law Society.
Amber served as a City Council Member for the City of Roosevelt Park for six years. During those six years as a councilwoman, Amber also served as Mayor ProTem and Chairwoman for the Personnel and Finance Committee for four years. Currently, Amber is a member of the Roosevelt Park Planning Commission.
In her time away from the office, Amber enjoys spending time with her son Gabe, her Pug Dutch, and her Labrador-Husky mix, Sam.
